The University of Graz Field of Excellence “Climate Change and Sustainable Transformation” is inviting applications for a highly attractive research and teaching environment, with world leading faculty across the relevant disciplines involved from its schools of social sciences and economics, natural sciences, environmental sciences, and the humanities. The selected candidate will become a member of one of the leading research groups on the economics of climate change, covering impacts, adaptation and mitigation. He/She will work on highly relevant topics in an international environment and contribute to solving key challenges in adaptation to and mitigation of climate change.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Further development, maintenance and open access documentation of the Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models of the Economics of Climate and Environmental Change (EconClim) research group at the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change; Coordination of and responsibility for CGE model versions
- Engagement in the international modelling community to further strengthen visibility
- Collaboration and task lead in research projects with regard to economic modelling and introduction of young scientists to modelling as well as quality assurance
- Research in the field of economics of climate and environmental change, especially in climate change adaptation and mitigation
- Collaboration in and, if necessary, management of research projects of the centre; if necessary, participation in the application process for the acquisition of third-party funding.
- Cooperation with the established research groups at the Wegener Center as well as with the Field of Excellence “Climate Change and Sustainable Transformation”.
- (Co-)supervision of students in the context of bachelor’s or master’s theses and dissertations
- Teaching in the bachelor and master programs for the programs of environmental systems sciences and economics in German and English (max. 4 semester hours per week)
- Participation in organisational and administrative tasks as well as in evaluation
Eligibility
- Doctorate/ Ph.D. in economics or environmental systems science with a focus on economics.
- International publications in climate/energy or environmental economics and in computable general equilibrium modelling
- Several years of experience in own model development, simulation and interpretation of multi-regional, multi-sectoral CGE models
- Experience and practical knowledge in interdisciplinary modelling collaboration
- Research experience in large-scale projects (such as EU FP7, Horizon2020)
- Software skills in and experience with GAMS/MPSGE (required), as well as Git, R, Python (desirable).
- Experience in model intercomparison initiatives (such as Energy Modeling Forum or ISI-MIP) (desirable)
- Experience in the exchange with stakeholders and with the transfer of stakeholder knowledge into quantitative modelling (desirable)
