The Field of Excellence Climate Change Graz is inviting applications for 3 to 5 post doctoral fellowships at University of Graz, Austria, for 3 months. The program is designed for Postdoctoral researchers (up to 5 years after receiving their PhD; applicants at the final stage of their PhD program can be considered as well) from all academic fields working on climate change who wish to collaborate with one (or more) of the research groups of the Field of Excellence Climate Change Graz.

Contributions to the following interdisciplinary research fields is expected:

  • Interacting Organisms, Environments, and Societies
  • Epistemology of Climate Models and Realistic Possibilities in Climate Risk Assessment
  • Socio-hydrological Approaches to the Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources, see Research Groups Water and Climate Change and Climate Change in Mountain Regions
  • Development of Soil Amendments to Support Carbon Management, see Research Group
  • Functional Diversity and Ecology and Barta Group
  • Cryospheric Processes in the Arctic and High Mountain Areas under Climate Change,
  • Interdisciplinary Approaches for Assessing the Fair Allocation of Benefits and Burdens of the Transformation to Climate Neutrality, see Research Group Economics of Climate and Global Change and Working Section Moral and Political Philosophy
  • Intertemporal Dimensions in Climate Litigation, see Research Center ClimLaw: Graz and Working Section Moral and Political Philosophy
  • Developing the Energy Market to Expand Variable Renewables: Aspects of Economic and Legal Design, see Research Group Economics of Climate and Global Change and Research Center
  • Challenges in the Decarbonization of the Mobility Sector, see Research Area Systems
  • Sciences, Innovation and Sustainability Research and Research Group Economics of Climate and Global Change
  • Rapid Transition Pathways and Social Tipping Points, see Research Group Social Complexity and System Transformation and Environmental Sociology
  • The interplay of mitigation, adaptation and geoengineering: Questions of governance, strategy and ethics, see Research Group Environmental Economics and Public Goods and Research Area Earth Sciences and Climate

Applicants can choose to work with two research groups and should indicate their preferred host. All fellows will need to be present at University of Graz, Austria (i.e. no working remotely) for the full duration of the fellowship. Ideally, the fellows will start in October 2022, but late starts will be
possible if agreed upon with the host and coordinator of the program.

  • A 2-page research proposal for the work they intend to conduct during their fellowship
  • A short motivation letter (stating preferred host and indication of interdisciplinary linkage)
  • A CV with a complete list of publications

Applications to the 2022/23 program should be sent to ha************@un******.at (midnight CEST). Online interviews with the most promising candidates will be held by an interdisciplinary selection committee in July 2022, so that the decision is available in early August 2022.
