The School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine, University of Glasgow is inviting applications for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to a NERC-funded project: Valuing the mental health and well-being benefits of nature engagement through measures of soundscape complexity, working with colleagues at University of East Anglia and University of Surrey. The position is based in Glasgow, under the supervision of Professor Nick Hanley.
The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow. This post is full time and has funding for up to 24 months. Salary will be Grade 7, £37,474 – £42,155 per annum.
Eligibility
- Qualified to Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12
- PhD in a relevant field, such as economics, ecology, environmental science or statistics; or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience
- Experience of personal development in a similar or related role
- A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the wider subject area or subject specialism of environmental economics.
- Knowledge of project-specific techniques such as GIS, econometric modelling and/or stated preference analysis.
- Sufficient depth of relevant research experience, normally including sufficient postdoctoral experience in a related field, appropriate to an early career researcher.
Requirements
- Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.
- A track record of presentation and publication of research results in quality journals/conferences.
- Experience of making a leading contribution in academic activities.
- Ability to demonstrate a degree of independence as illustrated by identification of project objectives from assessment of the literature, design and analysis of experiments and drafting of papers.
- Experience in undertaking independent research.
