The Department of Supply Chain Management; Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and the Howard H. Baker Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs is inviting nominations and applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate Professor of Supply Chain Management.  

This is a 9-month, tenure track position with a 75% research and teaching appointment in the Supply Chain Management Department in the Haslam College of Business and a 25% policy research appointment in the Baker School for Public Policy and Public Affairs. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2024.

This position is part of a university-wide cluster hiring initiative on Mobility. With goals to foster transdisciplinary research and education, the Mobility cluster hiring initiative will establish UT and Tennessee as global innovation leaders in the advanced mobility economy. The purpose of these faculty hires is to conduct groundbreaking research that will strengthen UT’s and the state of Tennessee’s mobility innovation ecosystem by developing cutting-edge mobility solutions in real-world environments. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated research success in one or more of these areas with the vision to develop collaborative and funded research activities.

This position has an objective to lead the research agenda in Transportation Economics and Policy. The ideal candidate will have research interests in state and federal transportation policy, transportation economics and economic development, transportation flows, transportation sustainability policy, computational methods for transportation research, transportation safety, policy and/or behavioral transportation research.

Eligibility

  • An earned Ph.D. by the time of appointment with a major or minor emphasis in Transportation Economics, Supply Chain Economics and Public Policy, or a closely related field.
  • Evidence-based record of increasing peer-reviewed publications and presentations, and a growing record of excellent teaching and undergraduate mentoring.
  • Evidence of excellent research, quantitative, and communication skills, and success working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • The ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences including faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholder groups.
  • An ability to contribute meaningfully to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University, especially experience working with diverse students and the ability to contribute to fostering diversity and inclusion within the University community.

Requirements

  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior research experience in transportation policy, transportation economics and economic development from transportation policy, and supply chain economics.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of having a collaborative mindset, prioritizing working with other members of their appointment units to realize shared research and pedagogical achievements, including participation in large-scale and funded research proposals, joint publications, and new transdisciplinary curricular programming.
  • In addition, preferred candidates must have experience teaching transportation topics, including undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree courses in transportation economics, transportation policy, and related logistics and SCM courses. 
  • Candidates will ideally have experience communicating research to policymakers and the public at large. As Tennessee’s flagship land-grant institution, UT is particularly interested in recruiting candidates who are deeply connected to the organizations and communities in which their work will have a translational impact.
