The Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences, University of Alberta is inviting applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Environmental and Resource Economics. The successful candidate will have strong theoretical foundations and advanced quantitative and analytical skills. Specific expertise in environmental policy and regulation, machine learning, experimental economics, or environmental valuation will be an asset. A research program with links to sustainable development goals, Indigenous communities, or climate change are also valued assets of a successful applicant. Candidates who will support and advance university commitments to equity, diversity and inclusivity are welcome to apply. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the potential to achieve excellence in research with an externally-funded research program, interdisciplinary research collaborations, and the training of graduate students. Interdisciplinary linkages are expected to extend to Faculties of Science and Engineering within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences and across campus.
  • The position involves excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level.
  • Will contribute to the intellectual life of the university, the economics profession, and to communities and groups who partner in research.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must hold a PhD in Environmental Economics, Agricultural Economics, Resource Economics, Economics, Business Economics, or a closely related field.
  • Applicants with non-traditional pathways to an academic career in Canada
  • Candidates must have already completed their PhD, or expect to receive their PhD by July 1, 2024.
