The Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society (FES) in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University is inviting applications for a recent Ph.D. graduate for a postdoctoral scholar position, starting as early as May/June. The successful candidate will conduct within- and cross-country comparisons of quantitative impact estimates of changes in land use/cover, welfare, and causal mechanisms resulting from land management or development policies/programs that provide land use rights information or livelihood resources. The project spans multiple countries including Brazil, Liberia, and Ghana as well as the U.S. to further our understanding of the changes in resource use behaviors, land use/cover, and local welfare and establish better policy implications.
The postdoc will have the opportunity to pursue independent and mentored research, collaborate with faculty and other researchers in FES and AEC, and co-author publications, among other things. Applicants with broad interests in the intersection between conservation and development are encouraged to apply. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year subject to satisfactory performance. The appointment will follow the guidelines set by the OSU Office of Postdoctoral Programs.
Eligibility
- A Ph.D. in applied economics or economics is required (including expected completion in 2024 and received within less than five years).
- Applicants are expected to have strong training and experience in environmental and development economics, particularly in estimating the impacts of various policies and programs for sustainable development.
- The work involves data management and empirical estimations of various econometric models using survey and spatial data.
Requirements
- Experience and proficiency in household survey and spatial data management, along with knowledge of program evaluation econometric methods, are required.
- Excellent writing and communication skills are critical.
- Experience in the analysis using multi-country household survey data is a plus but not necessary.
