The Swiss Institute for International Economics and Applied Economic Research (SIAW) at the Economics Department of the University of St.Gallen (Dr. Paul Schaudt) is hiring full time research assistants (Pre-doc level), starting ideally between August and September 2024. The position is for one-year (up to two-year period on mutual agreement) and part of the SNSF project “Mining regions: Pollution, politics, and structural change’’. Note that due to Swiss migration law, only hire CH/EU citizens, or people that already have a work visa for Switzerland can be hired.
Ongoing projects include:
- Evaluating the environmental and socio-economic impact of resource production using satellite data, machine learning and GIS applications
- Analyzing how resources and politics shape regional urbanization patterns and structural change within countries.
- Studying economic and political determinants of conflict, focusing on resources and climate change related shocks.

Eligibility

- Applicants should have a background in economics, economic geography, computer science, or political science and a strong interest in political economy, development economics, regional/urban economics
