The Institute for Ethics in Technology at Hamburg University of Technology is inviting applications for a Doctoral Research Associate. This is a full-time position which is limited to 4 years.
Roles/ Responsibilities
- Independent doctoral research project. This doctoral research project should be related to the ethics or philosophy of technology, but may also include the normative foundations of moral and legal philosophy, political philosophy, or the ethics of artificial intelligence.
- Teaching (2 hours per week)
- Active participation in regular meetings within the Institute for Ethics in Technology at TUHH, as well as in meetings with national and international cooperation partners
- Contributions to academic administration
- Contributions to other ongoing projects at the Institute for Ethics in Technology

Eligibility
- Completed scientific university studies, in particular in the subject areas of philosophy, law, sociology, computer science, data science, or a subject related to the ethics of technology
- Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken
- German language skills are welcome but not essential
- An ability to work in a team, including in interdisciplinary contexts
- An independent, self-reliant, and committed mode of working
- Strong organisational and cooperative skills

- A philosophical paper between 5,000 and 10,000 words (independent of area; aplicant should choose their strongest piece)
- A preliminary PhD research proposal (containing a 500-word summary of the whole project, a table of contents, and 150-200 word abstracts for each chapter)
- Proof of completed training and/or university degree
