Application Deadline: October 31, 2020

Description

The Chair of Economic Theory (Professor Johann Graf Lambsdorff) at the School of Business, Economics, and Information Systems, University of Passau invites application for the position of a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant to start 1 January 2021.

The successful candidate is expected to work on the research project ‘Between Reciprocity and Responsibility – Contributions of Experimental Corruption Research’. It is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The aim of the project is to identify measures to curb corruption, foster the intrinsic motivation of public officials, and reduce the susceptibility to reciprocity. The experimental design used for this purpose models the potentially corrupt relationship as a grey area between extortion, bribery, and abuse of office. Using this design, the group will examine the impact of prominent anti-corruption methods (punishment of granting or accepting advantages, abuse of office, and the nullity of the basic contract).

This fixed-term position is offered either full-time or on a 0.75 full–time equivalent (FTE) basis. The contract will initially have a term of three years. Remuneration is in accordance with pay grade E13 of the German public sector collective agreement, TV-L. The position is financed by 50% project funds from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and 50% (or 25% in the case of a 0.75 FTE contract) from the Chair’s own funds.

The postholder will be a member of a research group headed by Professor Johann Graf Lambsdorff and Dr. Katharina Werner. Such individual in this position will have the opportunity to work towards a doctorate or start on their postdoctoral career. Responsibilities include work packages for the research project, write articles for academic journals in English, and present them at international conferences; include them in a cumulative doctoral thesis or at the beginning of the postdoc phase. Furthermore, such individual(s) will support teaching in the field of behavioral game theory and experimental economics (in the English language).

Eligibility

  • Masters (or doctorate) degree in Economics and experience in conducting economic experiments.

  • Excellent command of English.
