Apply as a PhD student in Hasselt University

The Centre for Environmental Sciences, a multidisciplinary research institute of Hasselt University is inviting applications for a PhD Student in meta-research in climate and environmental research. Recent research identified the presence of biases in published empirical findings across the sciences, with climate and environmental research being no exceptions.

Biases in published findings pose a threat to the cumulative research process and to evidence-based decision-making. This PhD project starts with a systematic review and meta-analysis related to carbon pricing. The PhD project can be tailored to the interests of the candidate. The PhD student is supervised by Prof. Dr. Stephan Bruns (www.stephanbbruns.de). The selected candidate for this four-year position will be appointed and paid as a PhD student (ca. 2500 EUR per month, tax free).

Eligibility

  • Master in (applied) economics, statistics, mathematics, business engineer, master in (applied) sciences (or similar master with quantitative-empirical focus)
  • Final year students are (likewise) encouraged to apply

Requirements

  • Strong research interest into climate research and/or environmental research
    and/or systematic reviews, meta-analysis or meta-research
  • Strong quantitative background, ideally with a focus on (applied) statistics/econometrics
  • Excellent problem-solving capacity
  • Cooperative and can work well in teams
  • Very good knowledge of English (Dutch is considered a plus)
  • Very good communicative skills
