The Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation (CCR) and the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment (SSEE) are inviting applications for a researcher with a background in experimental methods and interest in environmental economics.  The post-doctoral researcher position, which runs for 3 years, entails working on an exciting project with a leading video game and digital entertainment company. It involves conducting empirical research on applying education and entertainment principles for promoting pro-environmental actions. 

The Research Fellow, who will be based within the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation (CCR) at the Saïd Business School, will work closely with members of the School’s faculty, particularly with the projects co-investigators, Professor Alan Morrison and Dr Stefania Innocenti (Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment). Specifically, the Research Fellow will collaborate with the co-investigators on a project titled Edutainment and Climate change. The project will assess the potential of gamification as a policy tool in the context of climate change. The project will explore whether video games and virtual reality (VR) environments can be used to foster pro-environmental actions. The research scope is broad, and applicants are encouraged to bring their own related research ideas and projects into this role, as well as to develop new projects with Oxford Saïd’s faculty and the CCR.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will conduct academic research under the direction and guidance of, and in collaboration with, the co-investigators;
  • Conduct data analysis, literature review, write up results to be publishable in the premier peer-reviewed academic journals and research findings to academic and practitioner audiences.
  • Organise all project documentation (including data and reproduction files);
  • Liaise with all project partners and handle day-to-day research project management tasks and be an active participator in CCR activities.

Eligibility

  • The successful candidate will hold, or be close to completion, of a Doctoral degree (DPhil, PhD) in economics, public policy, sociology, geography, management science with a strong quantitative focus.
  • The candidate should demonstrate experience with designing and running quantitative experiments, excellent knowledge of econometric and statistical methods (with R or Stata)
  • Experience working with experimental and survey datasets and/or micro data and in producing high-quality data analysis with minimal guidance and ability to publish in premier social science journals is also required.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will possess the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • An excellent oral and written communication skills and data management abilities is an added advantage
  • The selected candidate must be an active member of CCR
  • It would be desirable if the candidate has experience and interest in environmental economics
  • There must be a willingness to collaborate with faculty members and CCR staff to produce teaching case studies
  • An experience of working in a research team is also required
