Apply as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Climate Model Analysis

The Section for Climate Economics and Risk Management at DTU Management is inviting applications for a 3-year Postdoctoral position focusing on analyses and projections of hydro-meteorological extremes and their impacts under current and future climatic conditions. Most of the work will be carried out in the context of interdisciplinary and high-profile EU-funded projects in collaboration with talented colleagues from DTU and leading international climate scientists and modellers from all over Europe.

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The period of employment is 3 years.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Contribute to several ongoing and upcoming EU projects, as well as to related internal research activities
  • Conduct exploratory, analytical, and computational work on weather and climate extremes
  • Help advance the understanding and modelling of extremes and their associated uncertainties, e.g., by applying state-of-the-art methods
  • Developing new enhanced analytical and computational frameworks based on (regional) climate model ensembles, process-based models, and statistical methods/machine learning techniques
  • Implementing the novel methodologies in shared codes
  • Contribute to climate change impact and economic modelling studies
  • Assist in instructing and guiding the research of MSc and PhD students.

Eligibility

  • A background in climate science, geosciences, or other relevant fields.
  • Expertise and experience with weather and climate extremes.
  • Experience with wildfire models, e.g., wildfire spread models. 
  • Experience in evaluating and analyzing regional and/or global climate model output from, e.g., CORDEX, CMIP, ISI-MIP, etc.
  • Expertise in statistical methods and machine learning.
  • Experience in Python, Julia, CDO, or other software/programming languages for climate model processing and analysis.

Requirements

  • Experience with high-performance computing systems.
  • Well-developed communication skills, e.g., demonstrated by a good track record of publications.
  • International networking, collaboration and management skills obtained through, e.g., EU projects and networks.
