Shanghai Jiao Tong University is inviting applications for highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in Environmental and Energy Economics to join a research project on residential heat pump adoption in China. The successful candidate will conduct research primarily under the supervision of Professor Xingchi Shen and become part of a vibrant academic community spanning the School of International and Public Affairs and the School of Environmental Science and Engineering.

This project investigates the adoption and effectiveness of residential air-source heat pumps in China as a key strategy for decarbonizing building energy use. Leveraging simulations, household surveys, and field experiments, the research aims to evaluate the real-world performance of heat pumps, identify barriers to adoption, and inform the design of more efficient and equitable policy incentives. The project integrates econometric analysis, behavioral experiments, and machine learning to generate evidence-based insights that can support China’s clean energy transition.

Eligibility

  • Ph.D. in Public Policy, Economics, Environmental Science, or a closely related field, ideally with specialization in energy/environmental economics or policy.
  • Promising publication record.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Outstanding econometric skills are essential. Preferably has proficiency in coding and data analysis tools such as Stata, Python, R.
  • Proficiency in Chinese is an asset.
