University of Queensland is inviting applications for a Research Fellow in Economics. The primary purpose of the role is to support Associate Professors Lana Friesen and Ian MacKenzie in undertaking the experimental component of their ARC Discovery Project, “Managing Carbon Offsets to Improve Australian Climate Policy Effectiveness”. This will mainly involve designing, programming, running, and analyzing lab-based economics experiments. This is an 18-month fixed term position.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Designing, programming, organizing, and conducting economic experiments.
  • Obtaining the necessary ethical clearances to conduct experiments.
  • Engaging in statistical and econometric analysis of the collected experimental data.
  • Drafting articles for publication in high-quality journals and participating in the journal review process.
  • Assisting in the data curation and management processes.
  • Incorporation of feedback from drafts and re-drafts of the research findings.
  • Supervision of research assistants as required.
  • Perform a range of administrative functions around management of scope and budget for research projects.
  • Any other duties as reasonably expected by your supervisor.

Eligibility

  • Completion of a PhD in Economics prior to taking up the position.
  • Good knowledge of software for the programming of experiments, with the inclusion of OTree and/or ZTree experimental programming software; as well as programming experience and excellent IT skills.
  • Good knowledge of econometric software packages such as STATA.
  • Experience of designing, running, and analysing the data from economic experiments.
  • Well organized and able to manage a program of research.
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to collaborate with academics.

Requirements

  • Ability to conduct internationally excellent or world leading research in behavioural and experimental economics.
  • An academic record commensurate to stage of career, in terms of publications of internationally excellent or world leading research in economics and/or grant applications.
  • Ability to engage in economic modelling
