The Department of Economics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology is inviting applications for a predoctoral researcher to support Prof. Nina Roussille’s research in labor economics on the determinants of imperfect competition, gender and racial inequality, as well as the role of information frictions in generating income inequality, meet regularly with Prof. Roussille to discuss their work, exchange ideas and receive feedback, and be fully integrated in this research and encouraged to attend seminars.

Examples of current research projects include understanding why the labor force participation of women in middle-income countries (e.g. India, Pakistan) remains so low, studying the distributional effects of labor demand shocks, and analyzing how wage setting operates in high-skill labor markets. This position offers comprehensive research training for graduate school in economics (or related field), through hands-on experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, research communication, and academic writing.

The preferred start date is around June 1st, 2025. An employment term of 1-2 years is expected. The salary range is $67,113 – $72,275.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field
  • A minimum of two years of specialized experience with quantitative data analysis, research methods, social sciences, which may include experience gained as an undergraduate
  • Solid analytical, coding, and communication skills in Stata
  • Attention to detail.
