The Centre for the Study of African Economies [CSAE], Department of Economics, University of Oxford, is inviting applications for a Projects Officer. The postholder will be primarily responsible for managing the financial and practical administration of the Economic Research on Identity, Narratives and Norms [ERINN] network; the Oxford Martin School Programme ‘Governing African Transitions’; the Oxford Martin School Future Shocks programme and various other CSAE research programmes including some that are currently in the pipeline.
Roles/Responsibilities
- Post award duties including reviewing preparing and submitting through the Departmental approval processes, the necessary documentation to enable award set-up, including contracts and financials;
- Ensure key terms and conditions are communicated to the Principal Investigator and other key
personnel; - Provide tailored project management support to award holders during their grant, particularly in relation to progress, spend and reporting requirements as detailed by the funder;
- First port of call for enquiries on CSAE research portfolio;
- Liaising with CSAE personnel at BSG responsible for programme management;
- Maintaining links with UK and international programme collaborators including a peer network with
Oxford research administrators; - Responsible for all aspects of event management which come under the research programme remit, for example Governing African Transitions team meetings and workshops; OMS Future Shocks workshops; any other large project workshops, In collaboration with the CSAE Events Officer;
- Monitoring of research assistants and casual workers on research programmes, including liaising with the Department’s Personnel Manager, for contract setup and signing; timesheets; payments;
- Supporting the CSAE Operations Manager with arrangements for consultant researchers and
collaborating institutions, including drafting contracts and contract amendments and authorising and facilitating payment.
Eligibility
- Proven experience of research grant administration within higher education or a comparable environment.
- Proven experience of financial administration on research grants, including various financial systems, and the ability to monitor accounts with meticulous record keeping and filing skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, with a proven ability to work independently and accurately with detailed narrative, numerical, and financial data.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to build trust and good relationships, and the ability to work well with diverse stakeholders in different cultural contexts.
- Proven experience of working in a team, with the ability to liaise and work effectively with a wide range of colleagues.
- A high degree of computer literacy and proficiency in the use of computer software; including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, with the ability to become proficient in new software packages.
- Ability to work flexibly and to use judgement and initiative to deal proactively with a range of tasks and to prioritise competing demands.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines
Requirements
- Experience of the University of Oxford’s financial systems and software;
- Knowledge of the University of Oxford’s personnel and research management policies and procedures;
- Experience working with research programmes in developing countries, particularly those in sub-Saharan Africa
