The Ness School of Management and Economics at South Dakota State University invites applications for a master’s research assistantship position starting Fall 2024 or Spring 2025. The position is for two years and is based on interdisciplinary projects funded by USDA that focus on economics of agricultural conservation practices and sustainable crop/livestock farming. The M.S. student will work under direct supervision of Dr. Tong Wang (South Dakota State University) and will also interact with other project investigators as needed. The position includes full tuition and a stipend for 2 years.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Conducting literature review on relevant topics
  • Carrying out economic/statistical analyses of farmer survey data and field level data using appropriate econometric models and estimating those with software such as STATA
  • Assisting investigators with farmer surveys and research-related project activities
  • Developing a thesis topic within the objectives of the project which will lead to presentations in the professional conference and potential paper(s) published in peer-reviewed journals

Eligibility

  • BS degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Management, or a related field; GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Highly motivated and capable of working independently
  • Excellence in spoken and written English (For applicants who completed their undergraduate work in a country where English is not an official language, a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or an IBT TOEFL score of 90 is required)
  • Previous research experience with interdisciplinary research projects, and familiarity with STATA, MATLAB, or related statistical analysis software are highly desirable
