Brown University is inviting applications for a Research Associate who will work directly with Professor Matthew Kraft to advance a range of ongoing research projects related to the K-12 teacher workforce and tutoring. The Research Associate will also contribute to a new line of inquiry at the intersection of education and climate science with the aim of studying how education systems can advance efforts to address climate change on multiple fronts.

This position requires a strong independent work ethic, interest in education, ability to collaborate with the research team and external partners, commitment to equity, and quantitative research skills. Candidates must possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community as part of an organization that centers equity in its work. This is a fixed term position with the possibility of renewal annually. This position is contingent on funding.

Eligibility

Bachelor’s degree in education, economics or related social science fields
1-2 years of research experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Master’s degree preferred
A strong quantitative background
Experience in Stata (or other software like Python or R) to analyze data
Strong interest in education research
Strong interest in climate science (prior training is a plus but no expertise required)
Ability to work independently or as a member of a team

Requirements

Experience with data management and statistical analysis
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines
Excellent judgement and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
Skills with Google suite apps
Skill/competency with statistical software (e.g., STATA, R)
The incumbent must have a demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
