The Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences, the University of Alberta is inviting applications for a tenured or tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
The successful candidate will have strong theoretical foundations and advanced quantitative and analytical skills. Specific expertise in Canadian forest policy and management or environmental valuation will be an asset. A research program with links to international trade, sustainable development goals, Indigenous communities, or climate change is also a valued asset of a successful applicant. We also seek candidates who will support and advance university commitments to the goals of access, community and belonging (Changing the Story). Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to achieve excellence in research with an externally funded research program, interdisciplinary research collaborations, and the training of graduate students. Interdisciplinary linkages are expected to extend to the Faculties of Science and Engineering within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences and across campus. The position involves teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the university, the economics profession, and to communities and groups who partner in research.
Eligibility
- PhD in Agricultural Economics, Environmental Economics, Resource Economics, Economics, or a closely related field by January 1, 2026
- Forest economics
- Ability to teach forest economics and forest policy
- Experience with a research program with links to international trade, sustainable development goals and Indigenous communities
- Experience working with topics in natural resource or forestry economics
