The South Dakota State University (SDSU) Ness School of Management and Economics invites applications for a 9-month, 100% time, benefit eligible tenure-track Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in Sustainable Farm and Food Systems. This position is supervised by the Director of the Ness School of Management and Engineering.
Roles/Responsibilities
- This position will have 75% extension and 25% research responsibilities.
- Work with producers and the agribusiness industry stakeholders to develop a nationally reputed extension program that focuses on sustainable farm and food system value chains.
- Leverage university resources and networks to develop an extension program that focuses on resilience to emerging trends in farm and food system value chains such as local foods, organic foods, supply chain risks, changing consumer preferences, and technological changes such as precision agriculture, big data, and block chain
- Develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda leading to peer-reviewed publications in quality journals
Eligibility
- A Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Economics, or related disciplinary area by hiring date.
- Potential to produce publishable research in sustainable farm and food systems.
- Knowledge of the United States farm and food systems.
- Potential to develop an effective, independent extension program working with various stakeholders.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
