The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is inviting applications for a full-time (9-month), tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor with teaching and research interests in applied economics. This position is supported by the Dairy Innovation Hub in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct nationally recognized research on economic and agribusiness topics relevant to the US and Wisconsin dairy industry, teach undergraduate and graduate courses (two courses per year), and advise graduate and undergraduate students. Areas of specialization could include but are not limited to agricultural production economics, commodity markets, environmental economics, consumer demand, international trade, agricultural policy, agribusiness, community economic development, and related fields. The anticipated beginning date is 22nd August, 2021.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Perform research, teaching, and outreach in an area of expertise in ways that are relevant to dairy agriculture and related fields
  • Develop and carry out a vigorous extramurally-funded research program recognized at state-, national-, and international-levels for innovative approaches to advancing farm businesses and communities.
  • The candidate will work independently and also within a collaborative research team to support the mission of the Dairy Innovation Hub.
  • Teach classes in their department which also contribute to college undergraduate and graduate programs. Teaching responsibilities will be commensurate with college expectations and consistent with the teaching loads of other departmental faculty.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary efforts and collaborative efforts within their department, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and federal labs.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in economics, agricultural economics, or a related discipline required
  • Extramural grant-writingPublications in peer reviewed journals
  • Graduate student training/mentoringTeaching and curriculum development
  • Contribution to the outreach and service functions of CALS and the Dairy Innovation Hub
  • Promoting an inclusive and diverse climate within our campus and associated communities
