The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) is inviting applications for PhD position (f/m/x) on economic valuation of soil multifunctionality in close collaboration with the Eisenhauer lab at iDiv. Staffing is subject to the approval of the sponsor.
Roles/Responsibilities
- Research on economic valuation and sustainable use of soil biodiversity and soil multifunctionality as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Writing and publishing of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals; presentation of own research at national and international conferences
- Participation in a disciplinary doctoral programme in economics, and in the advanced training modules of the research training group
- Contributing to the doctoral seminars and events of the research training group
- Opportunity of contributing to synthesis working groups as part of the research training group

Eligibility
- Strong interest in sustainable use and conservation of natural commons, especially soil biodiversity and multifunctionality
- Very good Master’s degree or equivalent in economics or a related discipline
- Experience with quantitative research methods (statistics, econometrics)
- Experience with qualitative social research methods (e.g. participatory or deliberative methods) is beneficial
Requirements
- Fluent English communication skills (speaking and writing)
- Fluent German communication skills (speaking and writing) are beneficial
