Professors Joe Henrich (Harvard University, Human Evolutionary Biology) and Jonathan Schulz (George Mason University, Economics) are jointly inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher to begin in September 2021 (or later) for two years with the potential for a third year. This research fellow will be a core member of a large interdisciplinary team focused on understanding how kinship, marriage, and family organization influence aspects of psychology, including perceptions, feelings, preferences, heuristics, and thinking styles. She/He will work closely with the team to design both online surveys and a package of experiments and ethnographic interviews to be deployed around the world in diverse field sites and within many countries. The fellow will take a leading role in organizing and running data collection as well as in data analysis and write-up of the results. Potentially collecting data in the field may be one of the roles of the selected candidate.

Eligibility

  • Individuals with a Ph.D., or those expecting to complete their Ph.D. shortly, are encouraged to apply.
  • Successful candidate may come from a variety of fields, including anthropology, psychology, economics, or evolutionary biology (among others)
  • Must possess experience in cross-cultural research, ethnographic fieldwork, experimental design, and statistical analysis (or a willingness to learn)
  • Must be prepared to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries
  • The ideal candidate would be creative, independent, articulate, and deeply engaged in questions related to religion, kinship systems, and human behavior.
