Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral fellow as a wellbeing metrics researcher. To be most effective in this role, the economists and analysts within the group provide support for other programs throughout EDF and foster relationships with economists outside the organization.

Roles/Responsibilities

Refine a preliminary conceptual framework that develops metrics to assess EDF workstreams in terms of human wellbeing outcomes and distributional effects
Identify and resolve major gaps and challenges in the framework
Oversee and conduct rigorous economic and technical analysis to develop metrics in particular for climate and air quality initiatives
Communicate with EDF leadership and program staff to integrate the framework and metrics into EDF’s strategic planning processes, and present findings
Develop partnerships with academic institutions to set in place longer term research efforts

Eligibility

An advanced degree (PhD preferred) in economics, natural science, social science or related empirical discipline with interest in working on wellbeing issues at the cutting edge of integrated environmental analysis
Commitment to supporting efforts to improve global human wellbeing and distributive justice
Highly organized and with strong data science, data management and analysis skills
Demonstrated success in project management and rigorous research
Familiarity with at least some of the following topics, such as climate impacts, air pollution and human health, and tools such as wellbeing economics, non-market valuation, and integrated assessment models, and understanding how these relate to human wellbeing and costs to society

Requirements

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong ability to effectively synthesize and communicate technical concepts in a clear and concise manner to colleagues internally and to external non-technical audiences
A track record of leadership of a collaborative research project
Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently
Demonstrate initiative, creative thinking, and problem solving skills
