The University of Rhode Island’s Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Researcher position.
The successful candidate will work with Prof. Emi Uchida and Prof. Pengfei Liu to lead research initiatives on non-market valuation, focusing on the economic impacts of climate change on coastal communities. Specific duties include designing and implementing survey and lab experiments and conducting hedonic price analyses to quantify the value of ecosystem services and measure climate change impacts. This position will involve collaboration with a multidisciplinary research team and offer opportunities for professional development, publications, teaching (if desired), and conference presentations. The candidate is expected to start in the fall of 2025 and the starting date is negotiable.
Roles/Responsibilities
- Conduct advanced non-market valuation research related to coastal management under climate change scenarios.
- Design and implement survey and lab experiments, particularly stated and revealed preference methods, to assess public preferences and economic impacts.
- Perform hedonic price analyses to evaluate the impacts of climate change on coastal property values.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and contribute to project planning, data analysis, and dissemination of results.
- Prepare research findings for academic publications, policy briefs, and presentations at professional conferences.
Eligibility
- PhD in Economics, Applied Economics, Environmental Economics, or a closely related field (required).
- Strong background in environmental and resource economics, with specific expertise in non-market valuation and the economics of ecosystem services.
- Proficiency in econometric methods, particularly as applied to environmental data and non-market valuation techniques.
- Experience with survey and lab experiment design and implementation, particularly stated and revealed preference elicitation methods.
- Knowledge of coastal management, ecosystem functions, and climate change adaptation is highly desirable.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with a proven track record of publication or high-quality research output.
