The Department of Economics and a newly established multidisciplinary research group, INVEST-HUB, at the University of Turku, Finland, are inviting applications for two Post-doctoral positions – one in Economics and the other in Political Science. INVEST-HUB is dedicated to (field) experimental and quasi-experimental work across the social sciences. These positions offer excellent possibilities to combine experimental methods and large-scale administrative register data. The positions are available for 3 years.
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN ECONOMICS

The post is positioned at the Department of Economics. The researcher will work in the newly formed multidisciplinary research group INVEST-HUB, which is a part of the Finnish research flagship center. The task of the researcher is independent research work in his or her special field and the development and application of experimental research methods in economics. The researcher will work in collaboration with the Department of Economics at Turku School of Economics. The research group is supported by an IT expert, who assists the researchers in managing and developing IT solutions required in various types of experiments and gives support to handle data collection and manage large administrative datasets. The pre-estimated salary will be 2850-3000 Euro/month for a person holding an MSc degree and on average 3300-4000 Euro/month for a person holding a Ph.D. degree. The position is subject to a six-month trial period. The candidate is expected to begin work in August 2021 and no later than November 2021.
Eligibility
- A doctoral degree in Economics (or a related field such as statistics or data science). It is possible to apply for the position if one expects to achieve a doctoral degree within the next six (6) months. The qualification requirements for the position are described in the rules of procedure of the University of Turku.
- Ability to conduct independent research and apply experimental and/or quasi-experimental methods in social sciences. Preference is given to applicants who have experience conducting large-scale random controlled experiments or laboratory experiments in economics. It is regarded as an advantage to the applicant if he or she has expertise in applying quasi-experimental methods to large administrative datasets.

The researcher will work in the newly formed multidisciplinary research group INVEST-HUB, a part of the Finnish research flagship center INVEST (https://invest.utu.fi/). The INVEST-HUB is dedicated to (field) experimental research in social sciences. The task of the selected researcher is independent research work in his or her special field and the development and application of experimental research methods in political science. The researcher will work in collaboration with the Political Science unit at the Turku University. The pre-estimated salary will be on average 2850-3000 Euro/month for a person holding an MSc degree and on average 3300-4000 Euro/month for a person holding a Ph.D. degree. Applicants with previous experience in conducting RCTs (e.g., field or survey experiments) in political science and/or applying quasi-experimental methods to large administrative datasets are favored
