Call for Applicaion: Multiple Research Positions in University of Bologna

The Department of Economics of the University of Bologna is currently inviting applications for three post-doctoral positions and one pre-doctoral position to work on various aspects of climate macroeconomics and finance. The advertised positions will be funded by overlapping interdisciplinary research projects as follows:

  1. SMOOTH. The aim of SMOOTH is to study the dynamic links between macro-financial systems and the transition to a low-carbon society, and to contribute to the design of policies directed at achieving a rapid and smooth decarbonisation. The project is funded by a Starting Grant of the European Research Council. SMOOTH started in September 2020 and will last five years. It is conducted by an international interdisciplinary research team at the Department of Economics of the University of Bologna, in collaboration with the RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment in Milano.   2. SMOOTHer. The SMOOTHer project builds on SMOOTH to study specific dimensions of macro-financial transitions to a low-carbon economy more in detail, including investment decision-making, production network effects and institutional commitment devices. The project is funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (FARE 2020). SMOOTHer started in November 2022 and will last four years.
  3. NEWS. The aim of NEWS is to study the behavioural and institutional factors affecting investors’ expectations about the green transition and to investigate how public policy can support the rapid diffusion of green technologies. The project is funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (PRIN 2022 PNRR). It is run in collaboration with the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Francesco Lamperti) and the School for Advanced Studies in Pavia (Alessandro Caiani). NEWS started in November 2023 and will last two years.

Overview of Research Positions

  • Post-doc researcher in ‘Macroeconomic modelling of low-carbon transitions’: The postholder will study the macro-behavioural implications of low-carbon transitions using analytical and numerical modelling tools, as part of the SMOOTH research project. The position will last two years, with possibility of extension. The gross annual salary is €35,000. Check here for further information about the application process.
  • Post-doc researcher in ‘Political economy of sustainable finance’: The postholder will explore the political economy of sustainable finance with a focus on central banks and the alignment of transition-related expectations, as part of the SMOOTHer research project. The position will last two years, with possibility of extension. The gross annual salary is €35,000. Check here for further Information about the application process.
  • Post-doc researcher in ‘Green finance and experimental economics’: The postholder will design and conduct laboratory experiments to study the links between financial investment decision-making and the low-carbon transition, as part of the NEWS research project. The position will last one year, with possibility of extension. The gross annual salary is €27.258. Check here for further information about the application process.
  • Pre-Doc researcher in ‘Climate and transition economics’: The postholder will support the research on the socioeconomic implications of climate change and the low-carbon transition, as part of the SMOOTH project. All positions will need to be filled by July 2024. Earlier starting dates can be discussed. The salary is exempt of taxation but subject to pension contributions. No teaching is required. It is expected that the postholder to be based in Bologna. The knowledge of the Italian language is welcome but not a prerequisite.
