Call for Application: Associate Research Fellow in IFPRI

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is inviting applications for an Associate Research Fellow (ARF), or Research Fellow (RF) for a two-year, renewable appointment in the Poverty, Health and Nutrition Division (PHND). The selected candidate will contribute to/lead the development and implementation of the research agenda on capacity sharing activities for the One CGIAR Initiative called Fruits and Vegetables for Sustainable Healthy Diets (FRESH). This Initiative uses an endto-end approach (consumption, production, food environments) in low-and-middle-income countries to improving intake of fruits and vegetables, reducing poverty, addressing environmental constraints and equity-related issues among others.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Identifies, maps and describes capacity strengthening needs of key stakeholders in areas relevant for FRESH
  • Develops and implements a global strategy for strengthening the capacity of key stakeholders to support the prioritization of fruits and vegetables in sub-national, national and regional laws, regulations and policies with the aim of improving diet quality and increasing incomes within planetary boundaries
  • Leads or contributes to the development of capacity strengthening training materials (within Work Package 6 and across the other Work Packages)
  • Leads or contributes to capacity strengthening workshops (within Work Package 6 and across the other Work Packages)
  • Designs and conducts research to understand the effectiveness of different types of capacity sharing approaches for increasing knowledge, attitudes and practices and in influencing investments and policies

Eligibility

  • PhD in Social Science, Public Policy, Agriculture, Nutrition, International Relations, Economics, Education or Public Health Expertise in capacity strengthening, adult education, policy influence and interdisciplinary research, ideally with experience in at least two of the following: agriculture development, food environments, diets, or the fruit and vegetable sector
  • Proficiency in either quantitative or qualitative research methods with a preference for expertise in the use of mixed methods approaches
  • Experience or training in capacity strengthening or sharing methods
  • Prior research on topics related to capacity sharing
  • Experience working in multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Ability and experience in managing internal and external relationships with project teams, donors, and collaborators
  • Capability and interest in capacity strengthening and policy dialogue with international agencies, NGOs and donors
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Ability to travel extensively.

At the Research Fellow level

Eligibility

  • 3+ years of post-PhD experience relevant to the job and demonstrated fundraising experience
  • Excellent publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience building and managing teams

Requirements

  • Experience with specific issues related to fruit and vegetable value chains and/or issues related to low intake of fruits and vegetables
  • Familiarity with food systems related research and analysis in LMICs
  • Understanding of multi-sectoral program and policy design and implementation, and experience working and engaging with program implementers and policy makers
  • Experience working with researchers from other social and biological sciences
  • Proficiency or fluency in one or more languages of current focal countries (Benin, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and the Philippines)
