The International Committee on Women in Agricultural Economics (ICWAE) of the International Association of Agricultural Economics is announcing a mentorship program for women agricultural economists from the global South. An ICWAE advisory committee, led by Prof. Cheryl Doss, is working closely with African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) who will be providing the mentoring program.
The two-year virtual Mentoring Program aims to equip women agricultural economists with the core
skills, networks, and practical resources to develop their careers, enhance their visibility and increase
their their legitimacy and relevance.
The Mentoring Program consists of three (3) components:
- Mentoring Orientation Workshop (MOW)
- Mentoring in practice
- Coaching program
Eligibility (Mentees)
- Women who have a Ph.D in agricultural economics and are currently working as an agricultural economist
- Priority to those with 3-5 years of work/research experience
- Women who are from the Global South (Africa, Asia, Middle East, Latin America, the Caribbean and Pacific Islands) and are currently based in institutions in the Global South
- Are currently employed in a position related to agricultural economics, including those in academia, research, NGOs, Government agencies or the private sector
- Are passionate about their own career development and contributing to the agricultural economics profession more broadly
- Can commit to fully participating in the Mentoring Program
- Will be able to attend training sessions, Program’s workshops and events organised by AWARD and ICWAE (sessions will be online).
- Are committed to becoming mentors themselves and sharing what they have learned
Eligibility (Mentors)
- Agricultural economists with at least five (5) years of professional experience who are currently members of the IAAE or a regional agricultural economics professional association
- Have a minimum of five years of working experience as a professional agricultural economist
- Are interested in learning how to be an effective mentor
- Have excellent communication skills
- Have the desire to provide the nurturing support for mentees to learn, grow and establish themselves within their professional fields and as strong and compelling leaders
- Can commit for at least one (1) year in the AWARD-ICWAE Mentoring Program
- Will be able to attend training sessions, Program’s workshops and events organised by AWARD and ICWAE (sessions will be online).
