The University of Rhode Island (URI) invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in land use policy. The position, funded by a grant from the USDA, requires collaboration on research at the intersection of behavioral economics, democratic institutions, and land use policy. The project consists of designing, conducting, and analyzing a series of public opinion surveys of American voters and elected officials. It builds on a long-term project of the Principal Investigators (PIs) studying public opinion about land-use decisions. There are no formal teaching responsibilities for this position but it will include working with and managing undergraduate students for data collection. The selected candidate will work under the joint supervision of PIs in the Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics and the Department of Political Science. The Position is available through a full-time calendar year, limited to 31st August 2022 with anticipated renewal.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Principal Investigators to conduct proposed research to fulfill grant objectives
  • Design, program, and conduct surveys.
  • Lead teams of graduate and undergraduate students in conducting surveys.
  • Manage and analyze data.
  • Write manuscripts for publication.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, or related field at time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated research experience in behavioral economics, American politics, or non-market valuation.
  • Demonstrated research experience as part of a research team.
  • Demonstrated data management and quantitative analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated strong written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations
  • Experience working on interdisciplinary projects (preferred)
  • Experience in designing, programming, conducting, or analyzing surveys (preferred)
  • Must be creative, able to think critically, and hard-working.
