Call for Application: Postdoctoral positions in Macquarie Business School

Macquarie Business School in Sydney is inviting applications for two post-doctoral positions to join an interdisciplinary research team working on the CommBank Diaries 2026 project; a four-year research program studying the financial decision-making processes of young Australians and the factors that influence their choices. The project is a collaboration between Macquarie Business School and Commonwealth Bank. The postdoctoral associate will work with academics and Commonwealth Bank staff, including researchers in the bank’s Behavioral Science and Financial Wellbeing units.

Data collection will include:

  • A 12-month longitudinal diary study of 100 households to include ethnographic and digital data collection.
  • A multi-year nationally representative longitudinal survey
  • Experimental studies.
  • Analyses of large secondary databases of transactional and other data

Eligibility

  • A PhD (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline such as behavioural economics, psychology, management or applied finance.
  • Evidence of ability to master and apply quantitative analytical methods
  • Evidence of ability to master and apply qualitative methods in the collection and analyses of data.
  • Evidence of well-developed written and verbal communication skills, for example, publications or submissions to scientific journals/conference presentations
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Self-discipline, organization skills, motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research and meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • A research record or demonstrated potential to publish articles in top journals.
  • Substantial understanding of interdisciplinary data analysis 
  • Skill in the application of longitudinal methods such as growth curve modelling and/or Bayesian methods.
  • Capability in the applications of AI and Machine Learning
  • Proficient in R or other programming languages
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with internal/external stakeholders.
