Call for Application: Two fully-funded PhD Positions in UBC

University British Columbia is inviting applications for two fully funded Ph.D. positions located in the Food and Resource Economics Group (FRE). FRE is an active group of environmental, resource, and agricultural economists within the Faculty of Land and Food Systems and with collaborative relationships with the Vancouver School of Economics, the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability, and the Sauder School of Business.

  • One position will be co-supervised by Frederik Noack and Joséphine Gantois and will involve one project around conservation and agricultural practices.
  • One position will be supervised by Jonathan Proctor and will involve one project around agriculture and climate change.

The positions are guaranteed a minimum funding package of $35,000 each year for four years. This funding may be comprised of any combination of teaching assistantships (TA), research assistantships (RA), grants and/or stipend support.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Candidates are expected to lead one research project in collaboration with their respective supervisors
  • They are expected to develop innovative research projects broadly related to environmental, agricultural, resource or conservation economics.
  • PhD students in FRE typically write three papers during their PhD, including a single-authored job market paper

Eligibility

  • Degree in economics or related fields.
  • Good data skills including econometrics and/or geospatial analysis.
  • Proficiency in R or another relevant programming language.
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
