Call for Application: Visiting Assistant Professor in University of Connecticut

The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at the University of Connecticut is inviting applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor during the 2023-2024 academic year. The successful candidate will be able to teach a range of undergraduate courses, including those focused on gender and violence, gender and globalization, and the politics of reproduction, in both large lecture and seminar settings. This is a one-year, nine-month, non-tenure track appointment with teaching responsibilities. Responsibilities may include undergraduate advising and service to the unit and/or campus through participation in committee work.

Housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program is a multidisciplinary research and teaching program committed to transforming scholarship in existing academic disciplines by incorporating the study, contributions, and feminist analysis of gender and sexuality. To that end, the program is invested in new approaches to interdisciplinary feminist teaching and engaged in intersectional work that advances the understanding of the construction, reproduction, and resistance to inequality.

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2023. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. 

Eligibility

  • Ph.D. or international equivalent in an area relevant to the field of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse student body.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Requirements

  • Evidence of commitment to broadening student participation and integrating social justice concerns into instruction.
  • Critical pedagogical techniques that meet the needs of diverse learning styles.
  • Experience teaching large, core curriculum undergraduate level courses.
