The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies Geneva, Switzerland, invites applications for a tenure track full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Environmental and Resource Economics. This position is open to graduating doctoral students or recently-graduated post-doctoral researchers.

The appointed professor will hold the Andre Hoffmann Assistant Professorship in Environmental and Resource Economics. The successful candidate will teach postgraduate courses in environmental and resource economics and supervise master’s dissertations and Ph.D. theses in the Department of International Economics. The candidate will also teach courses and supervise master’s dissertations in the Institute’s graduate-level programs in International Affairs and Development Studies, which will usually include introductory courses in environmental and resource economics and policy. They may also be called upon to contribute to executive education programs.

The Institute is an interdisciplinary institution. The selected candidate should be interested in interdisciplinary dialogue. The appointee will also serve as a member of the Centre for International Environmental Studies (CIES) and will help to lead the research program in that Centre. The CIES comprises faculty from all five disciplines represented at IHEID (Anthropology/Sociology, Economics, History, Law, and Political Science) and presents weekly inter-disciplinary seminars and occasional seminars in environmental and resource economics. The Centre hosts graduate students from all fields and the candidate will be expected to develop research projects and supervise graduate students in environmental and resource economics.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Economics
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellence in academic research and a promising research agenda.
  • The teaching language is either English or French. Prior knowledge of French is not required, but the successful candidate is expected to acquire a passive knowledge of it within two years of being hired.
