This privacy policy contains details on how we collect, use, and interact with information provided by our visitors.

The Ultimate Economics Journal (The UEJ) collects and manages user data according to the following Privacy Policy.

What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It

In addition to listing what personal data we collect, we need to note why we collect it. Personal data is not just created by a user’s interactions with your site. Personal information is also generated from technical processes such as contact forms, comments, cookies, analytics, and third-party embeds.

We collect the information you provide directly to us. This information is provided when you subscribe, participate in any interactive features of our services, purchase a product, fill out a form, request customer support, or otherwise communicate with us. The types of information we may collect may include your name, email address, postal address, personal account preferences, transactional data, such as purchase information, technical data, such as information about cookies, and identifying information you choose to provide.

We collect anonymous data from every visitor of the Website to monitor traffic and fix bugs. For example, we collect information like web requests, the data sent in response to such requests, the Internet Protocol address, the browser type, the browser language, and a timestamp for the request. By default, our Website does not indirectly collect personal data about visitors and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users. However, some of our plugins may collect personal data. Kindly read about this below.

Cookies and Web Beacons

Cookies are small data files stored on your hard drive or in your device memory that help us improve our services and your experience, see which areas and features of our services are popular, and count visits. If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. We also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices when you log in. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.  If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.

We may also collect information using web beacons (also known as “tracking pixels”). Web beacons are electronic images used in our services or emails to count visits, understand web usage, and campaign effectiveness.

Forms

In becoming a member of the community, you are provided with forms for user registration, login, and profiles. Through these forms, personal data is collected from you and stored. These data may include your name, email address, postal address, or any other information required. This data is retained for as long as necessary unless you indicate otherwise.

Comments

When you comment on features, posts, and articles on the Website, your address and browser user agent strings can be obtained to help detect spam. A hash, an anonymized string created from your email address, is mainly used for this purpose through the Gravatar service. Here is the Gravatar Service policy  https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comments are approved, note that your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. Your comments and their metadata are stored indefinitely. This is so that we can automatically approve any follow-up comments easily.

Media

If you upload images to the Website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the Website can download and extract any location data from images on the Website.

Contact Forms

We keep contact form submissions for a certain period for customer service purposes, but we do not use the information submitted through you for marketing purposes.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if the visitor has visited the other Website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that Website.

Analytics

The Website uses Google Analytics, which helps us track website performance, session duration, number of visits, etc. Here is the Google Analytics privacy policy https://policies.google.com/. Note that your personal information is not shared with any person, organization, or company, except in the following cases:

  • With your consent.
  • With domain administrators.
  • For legal reasons.
  • For external processing.

How We Use Information

We only use your personal information to provide our services, place and manage ads in our advertising program, fix problems with our services, customize the user experience and communicate with you. We employ industry-standard techniques to protect against unauthorized access of data about you that we store, including personal information. We do not share personal information you have provided to us without your consent unless:

  • Doing so is appropriate to carry out your request.
  • We believe it is legally required or needed to enforce our legal agreements.
  • We believe it is required to detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues.

Who We Share Your Data With

We do not share your personal information with third parties. Aggregated, anonymized data is periodically transmitted to external services to help us improve the Website and our services. We may also allow third parties to provide analytics services. These third parties may use cookies, web beacons, and other technologies to collect information about your use of the services and other websites, including your IP address, browser user agent strings, pages viewed, time spent on pages, links clicked, and conversion information.

We also employ social buttons provided by services like Instagram, Twitter, Google+, Linked In, and Facebook. Your use of these third-party services is entirely optional. We are not responsible for the privacy policies and practices of these third-party services, and you are responsible for reading and understanding these third-party services’ privacy policies.

How Long We Retain Your Data

Information provided by our visitors is kept for as long as is reasonably necessary, and in any event, if the Data Protection Legislation allows.

You may delete your data whenever you feel like, by indicating or unsubscribing. However, some data can be retained for more extended periods, as necessary. When you delete data, a deletion process is followed through to ensure that your data is safely removed in an anonymized form.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can automatically recognize and approve any follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Registered user information is kept in your Website’s database indefinitely. Data can be exported or removed upon users’ request via the existing data exporter or eraser. If syncing data to a 3rd party service, data is retained there until unsubscribed or deleted.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account on this Website or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where We Send Your Data

We do not send your data to any user outside the Website.

How We Protect Your Data

While no online service is 100% secure, we work very hard to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, disclosure alteration, or destruction and take reasonable measures to do so. We monitor our Services for potential vulnerabilities and attacks. To enhance the security of your account, we encourage you to access the Website within a secure environment.
